Australia ranks eighth among the world's largest energy producer in the world. That amounts to 2.5% of the whole world’s energy production.
The traditional sources of energy in Australia comes from fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, natural gas, oil, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). Fuel plays a huge role in increasing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, as it is cheap and abundant, however, this causes global warming and climate change.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Greenhouse Gas Emissions cause global warming. Human activities such as deforestation and burning fossil fuelshave a direct impact on the greenhouse.Gases identified as,carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, ozone, and methane, also, synthetic gases such as,chlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons. The greenhouse effect is a natural process wherethe sun's radiation passes through the Earth's atmosphere, enough to keep us warm and to sustain life. Some extra energy goes to the mountains, the seas and some illuminate towards space. When these heat energies get trapped in the atmosphere because of greenhouse gases, we experience a warmer than usual climate or temperature.
How Commercial Sectors Contribute to the Increase of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The building and property industry contributes to the increasing greenhouse gas emissions because of the amount of energy they use on a daily basis. A study from the Department of Industry, Innovation, and Science shows that electricity is a dominant energy source for all the buildings in Australia. The study also shows that the total greenhouse gas emission associated with energy in commercial buildings results in 32 Mt carbon dioxide emission. The energy needs of hotels, offices, retail, supermarkets, and public buildings rely upon using 100% electricity. The dominant end-use of energy goes to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, office equipment and lighting.
Solar Panels
Australia experiences more than the average solar radiation compared to other countries. Itis fortunate enough to have constant replenishment from a natural energy source. In 2009, Australia implemented the installation of solar panels for new government-funded buildings.
A solar panel obtains energy from the sun converting it into electricity. It has Photovoltaic cells (PV) which is sunlight converted to energy.
Greenhouse gas emissions are destroying the Earth’s atmosphere. However, we can be of help to our environment by installing solar panels.
